CAN MONEY BUY HAPPINESS

 CAN MONEY BUY HAPPINESS

When we are asked this question, most of us are temp
ted to answer 'Yes!' although we know that people who have millions of dollars are not necessarily happier than us. Few of us have not wondered how life would be if we were 'crorepatis'. We'd live in a bigger house, have a nicer car, and we'd be happy.

Then. What about now John Lennon once said 'Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.' You're running around trying to earn more money, waiting for that deal to get made, that contract to come through and before you know it, you've lived your life without enjoying or appreciating it.

Money can help you afford nicer things, but it cannot make you happier. True, abject poverty can be depressing. You would be hard pressed to find happiness if you are struggling to make ends meet, don't have enough money for food or shelter, cannot keep warm during the winter or cool during the summer. But if you are earning enough, have a comfortable lifestyle, have a family that loves you, are healthy and intelligent, count yourself lucky.

Want proof Think back to a time when you got something you wanted. Perhaps it was admission to a good college or a great job. You were on a high when you got that appointment letter, and that high lasted for weeks, maybe months. Then you started coming back to earth, and a couple of years later you are once again sitting with the rest of the office gang grumbling about the bad work conditions, your boss and nasty co-workers.

It's the same with money. A sudden windfall will give you a high, but once your feet find the ground, you're back to square one. If you get rich by commuting long hours to your office, working late into the night and neglect your friends and partner, you will find that you are not that happy as a person who may make less money than you do, but who spends time with his family, goes for more vacations with them and doesn't mind kicking up his legs and taking life easy every now and then.

Happiness is all a question of attitude. Study has shown that married people tend to be happier than single ones, though the singles seem to be out having all the fun. Fun is short-lived, while the security of a happy marriage is very fulfilling. This does not apply if you are unhappily married though. Singles are far happier than those trapped in unhappy marriages.

Surprisingly, studies have shown that couples with children are no happier than couples that choose not to have children.

So how happy are you really While we are always told to count are blessings, we don't really do so, and even if we do, we don't put any value or price on our blessings. Here's how you can calculate how rich you really are, in terms of happiness.

Start with your basic annual salary and then add your earnings as shown below:

Being female, 10k - Yes, studies have shown that women on the whole tend to be happier than men, perhaps because they have less of a desire to excel monetarily.

Aged 49 to 70 years, 10k - Older people tend to be more content than youngsters.

Happily married, 70k

Remarried after a divorce, 50k - Add this to the 70k

Work part-time, 30k - You have more time for yourself and for things that really matter.

Love your job, 30k - You spend 2/3rds of your day, and your life, at your job. If you love it, you will be happier than if you dislike it and are working only for the money.

Small commute, 10k

And now, deduct the following from your salary
Commute of an hour or more by car - 30k, by train - 70k
Serious illness - 200k
Recently lost loved one - 170k
Unhappily married - 150k

So remember, real joy is a choice. You can choose to be happy, even without that huge bank balance.

Diaphragm (A Female Contraceptive Device)

Diaphragm is a barrier method of contraception. It is highly effective if used along with a Spermicide. A health care practitioner is consulted to determine the size of Diaphragm that fits a woman. Diaphragm is a preferred choice of contraception as it is an easy barrier method of contraception for women. Read on to know more about the advantages and side effects of Diaphragm.

The Diaphragm is a soft rubber device that has a flexible spring attached to its outside edge. The Diaphragm is a shallow rubber disk that is dome-shaped. And its flexible ring is inserted in a way that it perfectly fits inside the vagina.

How Does Diaphragm Work?

Diaphragms are highly effective when used conjointly with Spermicides wither in the form of gels or cremes. The gel or creme acts as an indispensable contraceptive agent and stays close to the cervical area of the woman. As a result, the sperm is effectively prevented from entering the uterus. Chances of pregnancy thus get alleviated.

The Diaphragm is said to be highly effective with a score of a high 94%. But it is extremely important to ensure that the spermicidal gel or creme is used properly as otherwise, the effectiveness can fall drastically.

A Diaphragm can be effective even when continually used for two to three years. But before each usage it is very necessary to observe and check minutely for the presence of tiny rips or holes on the surface. This can be easily ascertained if the Diaphragm is stretched and held up against a source of light.

The proper size of the Diaphragm can be determined only by a physician. The woman needs to visit a health care practitioner in order to find which size exactly fits her body.

The Diaphragm must be inserted before sex and should be removed within 6-8 hours after intercourse takes place. Spermicide must be applied every two hours or before each intercourse.

The Diaphragm does not interfere with the sexual actions and can hold its place during urination and bowel movements. The woman can also go under the shower while wearing Diaphragm.

Size of Diaphragm

In order to ensure its high effectiveness, the size of the Diaphragm needs to be regularly checked.

Especially under the following conditions:

The woman has just begun an active sex life
Experiences fluctuating body weight. The situation must be carefully monitored if there is a recent weight gain or twenty pounds or more.
If the woman has become pregnant recently
If any variant of pelvic surgery is carried out on the woman.

Advantages of Diaphragm

Following are the advantages of using Diaphragm for contraception.

Women and couples are found to prefer Diaphragms due to the fact that its presence is not felt by either partner during sexual intercourse.
Compared to the other barrier method contraceptive devices like the cervical cap, the Diaphragm is easier to insert and this makes women feel more comfortable in using it.

Side Effects of Diaphragm

Have a quick look at the side effects of Diaphragm.

TSS or Toxic Shock Syndrome can happen in women if the Diaphragm is left for over a day after the sexual intercourse. This is a rare medical condition.
The woman is likely to experience bacterial infections in some cases.
Some women are allergic to rubber which is the base constituent of the Diaphragm and therefore experience irritation or allergy due to it.
The Spermicide can also cause mild to serious irritation or allergies in some women.
It is important to note that the Diaphragm merely is a contraceptive that prevents pregnancy and does not offer any protection against sexually transmitted diseases and infections. The most common diseases and infections like gonorrhea, Chlamydia, herpes or HIV are not prevented with a Diaphragm. It is therefore advisable to use the Diaphragm along with the male condom to experience safe sex for both the partners.

The Pill

What is the pill?

The Pill is one of the most effective forms of birth control. It contains two synthetic female hormones (estrogen and progesterone), which prevent pregnancy by inhibiting the monthly release of the egg from the ovaries. Oral contraceptives are almost 100% effective when taken correctly. The mini-pill contains only one hormone, progesterone, and has an efficacy rate of 97%.

Why the pill?

The Pill is probably the easiest birth control method to use. There are two pill-taking programs: the 21-day regimen and the 28-day regimen. With the 21-day regimen, you take one pill each day for three weeks and then for one week you do not take any pills. The cycle is then repeated. With the

28-day regimen, you take 21 pills first, then seven placebos which contain no active drug. Most women prefer the 28-day regimen because they find it easier to remember to take a pill every day of the year. So just pop it and forget it. What could be easier?

Are there any side effects?

As with most forms of medication, the pill is not without its share of :

Irregular bleeding the first few months
Spotting between periods
Increased appetite
Depression or moodiness
Headaches and/or dizziness
Nausea and vomiting
Scant or missed periods
Weight change
High blood pressure
Breast tenderness

These side effects, though annoying, will not damage your health. Further, they are usually temporary and disappear within three months. If they persist longer, consult your gynecologist.

What are the advantages of the Pill?

It is convenient to use.
Unlike a condom, the pill does not interrupt sex.
Periods are usually lighter and shorter.
Periods get regulated and occur every 28 days.
As it prevents ovulation, in addition to its contraceptive action it also   eliminates mid-cycle pain which some women experience with ovulation.
The pill does not decrease a woman's chances of getting pregnant once she's off the pill and wants to conceive.
Did you know that there are many health benefits to the pill? These benefits include a reduced incidence of benign ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease, anemia, rheumatoid arthritis and most importantly, endometrial and ovarian cancer.

And disadvantages?

In addition to its side effects, the Pill has a few disadvantages:
They do not protect a woman from getting sexually transmitted diseases. If there is a danger of contracting an STD, always use a condom.
Some antibiotics can interfere with the way birth control pills work in your body, so if you are on any prescribed medication, inform your gynecologist.
You need to be extremely particular about not missing your pills. If you are the scatty-brain type, it's best to skip this method of birth control.
Though serious problems related to the use of birth control pills are very rare, the chances of developing blood clots, heart attacks, high blood pressure, strokes or liver tumors are slightly greater in women who take birth control pills.

However, you should NOT take the pill if…

You suffer from a history of blood clots, heart related problems like angina or kidney failure.
You have a history of breast cancer or other estrogen-dependent cancers of the reproductive organs.
You are in the acute stages of hepatitis.
You are a heavy smoker above the age of 35.
You start getting migraines after getting on the pill.
You have high blood pressure or diabetes.
You are about to undergo some major surgery.
You are breast-feeding.
You are above the age of 50.

FIRM UP YOUR BREASTS

Simple exercises to shape and firm your bust line.

If you're looking for an exercise that increases your breasts you might as well stop right now, since you're not going to find it. There is simply NO WAY you can increase your bust size by just exercise.

Your breasts are pure fat and no muscle, so the only non-surgical way to increase their size is to increase your fat intake... and we know how disastrous that could be! Instead, target your pectoral (chest) muscles to shape and firm your bust line. This would give the illusion of bigger breasts.

The bench press

The best exercise for shaping and firming your bust line is the bench press, which not only targets your bust line and flatters your figure, but also sculpts your shoulders and tightens your triceps (the backs of your upper arms).

You will need:
A pair of dumbbells
A bench (If you plan to purchase one, all you need is the simple, straight wooden board variety. A less expensive option is an aerobic step bench. You could use a piano bench, picnic table bench, or even a coffee table as long as it has sturdy legs and doesn't have a glass top just add some padding to cushion your back.)

How to do it?

1.Lie flat on a bench, with your feet on the floor, one foot on each side of the bench, straddling it.
2.Make sure that your head, shoulders, back and butt are firmly positioned on the bench.
3. Roll your shoulders back and down so the shoulder blades are firmly pressed against the bench and the chest is sticking up. This should result in the spine being slightly arched.
4. Keep the dumbbells about 18 inches apart and parallel to the floor with your palms facing upwards. The more narrow the grip, the more you involve your triceps. The wider the grip the more the outer area of the chest is worked.
5. Slowly push the dumbbells straight up, away from your chest.
6. Fully extend your arms so that the dumbbells are directly above your chest. Pause slightly at the top of the movement then slowly lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position.
7. Inhale and hold your breath as you lower the dumbbells. When they reach the chest, begin to move the weight upward again.
8. Exhale as you pass the point of greatest resistance.

What you should know

1. 8 to 12 lifts are considered a set. Do about 1 to 3 sets at a session.
2. Do about 3 sessions per week, and let there be one day of rest between sessions.
3. Don't forget to breathe.
4. Each round should take approximately 7 seconds. (3 seconds to lift, pause for a second and 3 seconds to lower).
5. To keep the shoulders from doing too much work, don't allow them to come off the bench. They should remain flat on the bench throughout the exercise.

Don't

1. Raise the dumbbells back over your head or forward over your belly.
2. Arch your back.
3. Raise the dumbbells out to the sides of your body.
4. Lock your elbows when arms are fully extended.
5. Rest the dumbbells on your chest.
6. Move quickly, especially when lowering.

LOOK SEXY THIS WINTER

Winter wear is always tricky. You want to look good and wear something fashionable, but at the same time you want to make sure that youre warm and snug.

Every year most of us spend at least a few days sick in bed because we sacrificed warmth in the quest to look good. Why is it so hard to achieve both?

Here are some tips on how you can look hot and keep warm this winter!

Boots

Invest in a pair of knee length boots. They are a great buy, because you can then get away with wearing a knee length suede or denim skirt, which would otherwise be virtually impossible in the winter. Make sure you wear stockings or thigh length socks (preferably the colour of your boots), as just a skirt may not provide you with adequate protection from the chill. You could also pair the boots with jeans that have a slit up the side, no higher than the length of the boots.

Shoes

If your budget doesnt allow you to go in for knee length boots yet, dont fret. Instead, go in for closed shoes, with pointed toes. Shoes that end in a point look more formal and fashionable than other shoes, and you can wear them with anything to immediately dress up an outfit. However, you may not find these shoes comfortable for daily wear, especially if you have to walk around a lot. Nothing beats keds for walking, and thankfully, canvas shoes are very fashionable at the moment, so invest in a pair of blue canvas shoes that you can wear with all your jeans.

Coats and jackets

Going shopping for a coat? Often people tend to rush in and buy one, only to realize its too large or too small. While buying a coat, remove all excess clothing, and wear only what you would normally wear under the coat. Then, try it on and button it up from the front. Stretch your hands out in front of you as if you are steering a wheel, or hug yourself, and see if it feels too tight. If it does, you should go in for a bigger size. If you are perfectly certain that you will never button up the coat, you could go in for one a size smaller. Avoid buying oversized and fluffy windcheaters or jackets. Go in for well-fitted ones, and opt for wool over PVC. Windcheaters are great after a workout, but are far from sexy.

What colour?

Although white is a great colour for a jacket as it can look very striking, it will get dirty all too soon, and is not very practical. Similarly, colourful jackets like dusty pink or burgundy look great, but cannot be paired with many outfits. On the other hand, no matter what you think, you really dont need more than one black jacket.

It thus makes sense to first stock up on the basic colours, and then slowly build up your wardrobe. Remember, overcoats and jackets last a long time, and through many seasons, so you can afford to buy unusual colours as well, as you will wear them often through the years.

After buying a basic black overcoat, opt for a camel coloured jacket, which will go great over a black, navy or red turtleneck sweater. Try and fit a bright, long coat into your wardrobe, like turquoise or even orange. Wear it with basic blacks and blues, and the minute you put it on you will feel a lot brighter and sexier.
